How to turn on your TV with your phone

Most TVs can be woken from standby over Wi-Fi only after you turn on one setting. Find your TV below, turn it on once with your TV remote, and the app can turn the TV on from then on.

Bush

Bush Android TV

Turn on Settings > Network & Internet > Wow (Wi-Fi). The TV must be in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall. The manual says Wol (Ethernet) does not wake it for Google Home.

    Turn Wow (Wake on Wi-Fi network) on. Bush's manual says Google Home wake works only with Wow, not Wol, so use Wi-Fi if you want wake.

Hisense Google TV

Turn on Settings > System > Advanced System > Wake on Cast (called Screenless Mode on models with hands-free voice). Wake works from standby only, not after the TV is unplugged.

    Set it to On. On models with hands-free voice (far-field mics) the setting is Screenless Mode. The manual notes it may not be on every model.

  2. Choose what happens at power-on

    Power On Mode can be set to Remember, Standby or On. Leave it on Remember or Standby so the TV stays in network standby.

Hisense Android TV

  1. Install any pending system update

    Updates can include a newer Android TV Remote Service, which makes pairing more likely to work.

Hitachi Android TV

Turn on Wow (Wi-Fi) or Wol (Ethernet) in Settings > Network & Internet > Other options. The TV must be in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall.

Turn on Settings > Network & Internet > WoW (Wi-Fi) or WoL (Ethernet). The TV must be in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall.

Wakes SHIELD from sleep only. Turn off the wake-button limits in Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Simplified wake buttons, and turn on Settings > Device Preferences > Display & Sound > Power control so the TV turns on too.

    Turn off "Wake on power and Netflix buttons only" (SHIELD 2019 Remote) and "Wake on NVIDIA or logo buttons only" (controllers).

Set Power Mode to Quick Start (Menu > All Settings > System > Power Mode). Not from Energy Save, and never from unplugged.

Turn on Settings > Network & Internet > Remote start via Wi-Fi (or Remote start via LAN for Ethernet). Works from standby only, not after the TV is switched off at the mains.

Needs Menu > Network > TV Remote App Settings > TV Remote turned on, plus the wake option on that screen (Wake on LAN / Wireless LAN in Panasonic's 2017–2019 eHELP; Powered On by Apps on some UK sets). Works from standby only, not after the TV is switched off at the mains.
