Troubleshooting
Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.
The TV doesn't show up in the app
- Make sure the TV is on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
- Check that your router doesn't isolate devices from each other (guest networks often do).
- Restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute, then try again.
The app can't turn the TV on
- Turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) in the TV's network settings (see setup above).
- Turn the TV off with its remote so it goes to standby. Wake does not work after a power cut or if the TV is unplugged.
- If the TV uses a wired connection, try Wi-Fi instead, or use the remote that came with the TV.
The TV can be turned on from a Chromecast app but not from Simple TV Remote
- Switch on with Chromecast is a separate setting. Check that Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) is also on; Philips says it must be on first.
- Put the TV in standby with its remote and wait a few seconds before trying again.
The TV doesn't appear in the app
- Make sure your iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
- Allow Local Network access for Simple TV Remote in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
- Restart the TV: unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Check that the TV is a Google TV or Android TV. TVs with only Chromecast built-in can't be controlled this way.
No pairing code shows on the TV
- Turn the TV on and leave it on the home screen; the code only shows while the screen is on.
- On the TV, update Android TV Remote Service: open Google Play on the TV, search for "Android TV Remote Service" and choose Update.
- If it still fails, go to Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service and choose Force stop, then Clear storage. Then pair again.
The app asks to pair again every time
- Clear the storage of Android TV Remote Service on the TV (Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service > Clear storage), restart the TV and pair once more.
- Give the TV a fixed address in your router so it doesn't change after a power cut.
The TV won't turn on from the app
- Wake works only from standby. A TV that was unplugged or switched off at the wall can't be woken over Wi-Fi.
- Turn on your TV maker's network standby setting. See your TV's page for the exact menu path.
- On Android TV 14 sets, a low-power energy mode may turn the network off in standby. Choose a mode that keeps the network on.
- If the TV uses Ethernet, try Wi-Fi, or the other way round. Some TVs only wake on one of them.
Volume doesn't change on a Chromecast, Google TV Streamer or SHIELD
- Turn on HDMI-CEC on your TV and on any soundbar or receiver in between.
- On the streamer, set Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Set up remote buttons > Volume control to "Auto (CEC)".
How to use your iPhone as a Philips Google TV remote
- Join the same Wi-FiConnect your iPhone and the TV to the same home Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often keep devices apart.
- Pick your TV in the appOpen Simple TV Remote and choose your TV. The free check runs on your own TV before you pay.
- Type the code from the TVThe TV shows a short code the first time. Type it on your iPhone once, and the app remembers the TV.
- Let your iPhone turn the TV onOptional: turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) in Settings > Network & Internet on UK sets, or Wake On Network in Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi Configs on US sets. It works from standby only.
Questions
Is there a Philips Google TV remote app for iPhone?
Yes. Simple TV Remote is a Philips Google TV remote app for iPhone that works with Philips Google TV sets running Google TV. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.
How do I pair a new remote with my Philips Google TV?
Open Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Pair remote or accessory, put the remote in pairing mode, pick it from the list and select Pair. Philips' manual for your model shows how to put its remote in pairing mode. If you have no working remote, your iPhone can open these menus for you.
How do I turn on a Philips Google TV without the remote?
Press the power button on the TV; the manual for your model shows where it is. If Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) is on and the TV is in standby, your iPhone can turn it on instead.
How do I let my iPhone turn on my Philips Google TV?
On UK and European sets, open Settings > Network & Internet and turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN). On US sets, it's Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi Configs > Wake On Network. Then turn the TV off with its remote so it goes to standby.
My Philips turns on from Chromecast but not from Simple TV Remote. Why?
Switch on with Chromecast is a separate setting. Philips says Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) has to be on first, so check both. Then put the TV in standby with its remote and wait a few seconds before you try again.
How do I connect my Philips TV to Wi-Fi without the remote?
You need a remote or the TV's own buttons for that step. Phone apps, including Simple TV Remote and Google's, can only find a TV that's already on your Wi-Fi. A replacement remote is the surest fix, and after that your iPhone can take over.
What if pairing keeps failing on my Philips Google TV?
Unplug the TV for 10 seconds, plug it back in and try again. Google also suggests turning the remote off and on and disconnecting Bluetooth devices you aren't using.
Can I use the Google TV app as a Philips Google TV remote?
Yes. Google's free Google TV app works as a remote on iPhone: tap TVs nearby, pick your TV and type the code it shows. Simple TV Remote is a simpler, remote-first option with big buttons, a keyboard and no account, for $5.99 once after a free check.

Is the US Philips Google TV the same as the UK one?
US models have codes like 55PUL7552/F7 and are made under a separate Philips license. UK and European models have codes like 55OLED808/12 and are made by TP Vision. Both run Google TV.
Where do I find the model number?
On UK and European sets, go to Settings > System > About. The model number is also on the type label on the back of the TV. On US sets it's on the rating label on the back.
About these TVs
TP Vision moved its top Philips ranges in the UK and Europe from Android TV to Google TV in 2023: the OLED7, OLED8 and OLED9 series and the PUS8508, PUS8518, PUS8808 and PUS8848 LED ranges.
In 2024 and 2025 Google TV stayed on the OLED8 and OLED9 series, the PML8709 Mini LED and the 2025 PUS8100. Most other 2024 and 2025 ranges moved to Titan OS, and all 2026 Philips TVs in Europe run Titan OS.
In the US, Philips Google TV sets have been sold since 2022, from the PUL7552 to the 2026 PQL7456. They are a different product line from the European sets, with /F7 model codes.
Simple TV Remote talks to these TVs with the Android TV Remote protocol that Google TV includes. You pair once by typing a code shown on the TV.
