Troubleshooting

Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.

The app can't find the TV
  1. Put your iPhone and the TV on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
  2. On 2014–2018 sets, turn on Settings > All Settings > Network > LG Connect Apps.
  3. Turn the TV off and on with its remote and try again.
The app can't turn the TV on
  1. Turn on Turn on via Wi-Fi using the path for your TV's year above.
  2. Leave the TV plugged in. It can only wake from standby.
  3. If your TV got a webOS Re:New upgrade, the setting is in the newer menu: General > External Devices > TV On With Mobile.
The app can't find my LG TV
  1. Put your iPhone and the TV on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often block devices from seeing each other.
  2. On 2014–2018 sets, turn on Settings > All Settings > Network > LG Connect Apps.
  3. Turn the TV off and on with the TV remote, then try again.
I missed or declined the pairing prompt
  1. Connect again from the app. The TV shows the prompt again.
  2. On 2014–2018 sets, Revoke Pairing under LG Connect Apps removes all paired apps so you can start over.
The app can't turn the TV on
  1. Turn on Turn on via Wi-Fi. The menu depends on your TV's webOS version: see the setup steps above.
  2. Keep the TV plugged in. A TV that's switched off at the wall can't be woken over Wi-Fi.
  3. If the TV has been off for a long time, wake it once with the TV remote and try again.
My TV turns itself on
  1. Turn on via Wi-Fi lets apps on your network switch the TV on. Switch it off if you don't need to wake the TV from your phone.
  2. Check for HDMI devices that turn the TV on through SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC).

How to use your iPhone as an LG QNED remote

  1. Join the same Wi-FiConnect your iPhone and the TV to the same home Wi-Fi network.

Is there a LG QNED TV remote app for iPhone?

What is an LG QNED TV?

It's LG's name for its quantum-dot LCD TVs, sold since 2021. Some are QNED Mini LED, including the 2022 8K QNED99 and QNED95. They all run LG's webOS, so they set up like any other LG smart TV.

How do I pair the Magic Remote with my LG QNED?

Turn on the TV, point the Magic Remote at it and press the wheel (OK). If it doesn't connect, hold Home and Back together for 5 seconds until the remote's power button flashes, then point it at the TV and press the wheel again. A message on the TV confirms it's registered.

Why does my LG QNED Magic Remote light up but do nothing?

It has probably lost its pairing with the TV. Hold Home and Back for 5 seconds to clear it, then point the remote at the TV and press the wheel. If the power button on the remote doesn't light at all, change the batteries first.

Where is the power button on an LG QNED?

LG says it's usually under the LG logo on the front edge, or on the back, depending on the model. Press it once to turn the TV on. On a joystick-style button, press and hold to turn off and push left or right for volume.

How do I let my iPhone turn on my LG QNED?

Turn on Turn on via Wi-Fi. On 2023–2025 sets it's Settings > All Settings > General > External Devices > TV On With Mobile. On 2021–2022 sets it's Settings > All Settings > General > Devices > External Devices > TV On With Mobile. It works from standby only, so leave the TV plugged in.

Why can't the app connect to my LG QNED?

Put your iPhone and the TV on the same Wi-Fi, not a guest network, then turn the TV off and on with its remote and try again. If you skipped the prompt on the TV, open the app again so the TV asks once more, and choose Accept.

Will another LG remote work with my TV?

A basic LG infrared remote often works across LG TVs. Magic Remotes may not work across models, so check your model before you buy a replacement. Your iPhone can stand in while you wait.

How do I tell what year my LG QNED is?

Find the letter after the series number. US: 65QNED80UQA is 2022 (Q), 65QNED80URA is 2023 (R), 65QNED80TUC is 2024 (T), 65QNED85AUA is 2025 (A), 65QNED85BUA is 2026 (B). UK codes put the year letter after a digit: 65QNED816QA is 2022 and 65QNED816RE is 2023.

Will my QNED get newer webOS versions?

2023 and later QNED TVs are in webOS Re:New. From 2022, only the QNED99/95 8K Mini LED sets are on LG's list.

Is MRGB a QNED TV?

No, LG markets MRGB as Mini RGB evo and Micro RGB evo. It's still an LG LCD TV running webOS, with the same settings, so this page covers it too.

Can my iPhone turn on my QNED TV?

Once LG support ships, it should be able to if Turn on via Wi-Fi is on and the TV is in standby.

About these TVs

LG QNED TVs are LCD TVs that run webOS. LG started the QNED line in 2021. Some series use Mini LED backlights (LG calls them QNED Mini LED), and the 2022 QNED99 and QNED95 are 8K Mini LED sets.

The series number comes right after QNED, and a letter shows the year: R is 2023, T is 2024, A is 2025 and B is 2026. In the US that's 65QNED80URA (2023); in the UK it's 65QNED816RE (2023).

In 2026 LG also sells MRGB models (Mini RGB evo and Micro RGB evo). They use the same model-code pattern and run webOS 26, so we list them here.

2023 and later QNED TVs are in webOS Re:New, as are the 2022 QNED Mini LED 8K sets (QNED99/95). Other 2021–2022 QNED models are not on LG's upgrade list.
