Sky Q remote lost down the sofa, or just not responding? Your iPhone can control a Sky Q box over your home Wi-Fi, including the 1TB, 2TB and UHD boxes. Simple TV Remote finds the box on your network with no pairing, and covers the arrows, Select, Back, the Sky button, playback, channels and standby. Volume stays on your TV remote. Try it free on your own box, then unlock it once for $5.99.
What works
Sky Q covers Sky's 1TB, 2TB and 1TB UHD main boxes and the Sky Q Mini, sold in the UK and Ireland from 2016.
- Navigation and OK
- Turn off
- Turn on from standbyWorks when the box’s Standby mode is set to Active or None, so it stays on the network in standby. Never after the box is unplugged.
On your TV
Turn these on once with your TV remote. Menu names can differ slightly by year and region.
Put your iPhone and Sky Q box on the same network
Connect the Sky Q box and your iPhone to the same home Wi-Fi network (or the same router by Ethernet). Sky's own phone remote needs the same thing.
Check the box is connected to your network
Press Home on the Sky Q remote, then select Settings and Status. Network connection should have a tick.
Set up or reset the network connection
Press Home, then select Settings, Setup and Network. Select Reset to connect the box again, for example after changing router.
Find the box's IP address
Press Home, then follow the path. The IP address looks like 192.168.0.7. This path comes from Sky's Community forum, not a Sky help article.
Keep the box reachable in standby
Press Home, then follow the path and choose Active or None. In Eco, the factory setting, the box goes into low power from 2:30am to 5:45am and takes a few minutes to come out of it, so a phone may not reach it then.
In the app

Questions
Is there a Sky Q box remote app for iPhone?
Yes. Simple TV Remote is a Sky Q box remote app for iPhone that works with Sky Q boxes running Sky Q. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.
Can I use my iPhone as a Sky Q remote?
Yes. Simple TV Remote controls Sky Q boxes over your home Wi-Fi, and Sky's own Sky Go app has a virtual remote too. Your iPhone and the box must be on the same network.
Which Sky Q boxes work?
Sky Q boxes in the UK and Ireland: the 1TB, 2TB, 2TB UHD and 1TB UHD main boxes. The app looks for Sky Q Mini boxes too, but a Mini streams from the main box, so the main box needs to stay on the network. The free check shows whether your own box responds before you pay.
Which Sky Q box do I have?
Press Home, then go to Settings > System info to see the hardware version. The model code, such as ES240, is on the label on the back of the box.
What can my iPhone do on a Sky Q box?
The arrows, Select, Back and the Sky (Home) button, play and pause, rewind and fast-forward, channel up and down, and putting the box into standby or turning it back on. You can't change the volume, type, open apps or switch your TV's inputs from the app, so keep the TV remote for volume.
How do I pair a new Sky Q remote?
Hold 1 and 3 together, select Continue, enter your TV's brand, select Find it for me, and pick your TV. Only one remote can be paired with a box at a time, so hold 7 and 9 on the old remote until its light flashes first.
How do I reset a Sky Q remote?
Hold 7 and 9 until the light on the remote flashes. That resets it, and you then pair it again with 1 and 3.
Why won't my Sky Q remote change the TV volume?
It hasn't been set up for your TV yet. Hold 1 and 3, enter your TV's brand, select Find it for me, and keep selecting No, try another until the volume buttons work. If that fails, reset with 7 and 9 and start again.
How do I turn my TV on with the Sky Q remote?
Switch on HDMI control: press Home, then go to Settings > Setup > Audio Visual > HDMI Control and set it to On. Your TV needs to support HDMI control (CEC). Hold the standby button for three seconds to test it.
Can my iPhone turn on the Sky Q box?
Yes, from standby, if the box's Standby mode is Active or None. Press Home, then go to Settings > Setup > Preferences > Standby mode. In Eco, the factory setting, the box goes into low power from 2:30am to 5:45am.
How do I get a replacement Sky Q remote?
Request one from Sky. On Sky's lost, stolen or damaged Sky Q equipment page, select I still need help. Your iPhone can stand in while you wait.
Is Sky Q the same as Sky Glass or Sky Stream?
Sky Glass and Sky Stream are newer Sky products with different software. This page covers Sky Q only.
About these TVs
Sky Q boxes went on sale in the UK and Ireland on 9 February 2016. Sky's help pages describe four main boxes by storage and picture: 1TB, 2TB, 2TB UHD and 1TB UHD, plus the Sky Q Mini for other rooms.
Sky doesn't publish the model codes printed on the boxes. The codes on this page come from secondary sources and from what the boxes report on the network.
Sky's help pages identify boxes by hardware version instead, under Settings > System info. The 32B0xx hardware version can show Ultra HD but not HDR.
