Vizio TV remote not working? How to fix it

Replace or reseat the batteries
- Take the batteries out of the remote.
- Press and hold each button briefly to free any stuck button.
- Put in a fresh set of batteries, with the + and - ends matching the marks in the compartment.
- Try the remote again.
Look for stuck or damaged buttons
A stuck button, especially Volume, Power or Input, can make the TV act on its own or ignore other buttons. Clean around the buttons with a soft, dry cloth. Don't spray liquid on the remote. If a button stays stuck, the remote may need replacing.
Power-cycle the TV
- Turn off the TV and unplug it from the outlet.
- Wait at least 5 seconds.
- Plug it back in, turn it on, and test the remote.
- If it still doesn't work, take the remote's batteries out and put them back after the TV restarts.
Clear the path to the sensor
Most Vizio remotes use infrared, so they need a clear line to the TV.
- Move anything blocking the lower corners or front of the TV.
- Point the remote at the TV's sensor and use it within a normal distance.
- Don't use it from behind a cabinet door.
- Keep bright lights and direct sunlight off the sensor while you test.
Voice remote: reset and pair again
- Hold Input and Mute on the remote for about 10 seconds. A light near the top of the remote flashes.
- On the TV, go to Menu (you may need to open All Settings first) > System > Voice Remote, press OK, and choose Pair New Remote.
More than one Vizio TV in the house?
Vizio remotes can control more than one Vizio TV. If the TV acts on its own, another Vizio remote nearby may be controlling it. Take the batteries out of the other remotes to test.
Try another Vizio remote
Most Vizio remotes control the basics on any Vizio TV: power, volume, input and navigation. If another one works, your original remote needs replacing. App buttons may not work on older TVs.
