## What works

Sharp Android TV sets sold in the UK and Europe from 2021 to 2023 run Android TV 11 (a few HD models run Android TV 9) and use the same pairing code flow as Google TV.

- Navigation and OK
- Volume and mute
- KeyboardSome apps, like YouTube, use their own keyboard and ignore typed text.
- Open apps
- Turn off
- Turn on from standbyTurn on Settings > Network & Internet > Wow (Wi-Fi) or Wol (Ethernet). The TV must be in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall.

## On your TV

Turn these on once with your TV remote. Menu names can differ slightly by year and region.

1. ### Connect the TV to the same network as your iPhone

    Settings **›** Network & Internet

2. ### Let your iPhone wake the TV over Wi-Fi

    For turn on from standby

    Settings **›** Network & Internet **›** Wow

Turn Wow (Wake on Wi-Fi network) on.

3. ### Let your iPhone wake the TV over Ethernet

    For turn on from standby

    Settings **›** Network & Internet **›** Wol

Use Wol (Wake on LAN) instead if the TV is on a network cable.

## In the app

Pairing takes about a minute, once per TV.

1. ### Connect your iPhone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network

Guest networks and Wi-Fi with device isolation block local control.

    [Source](https://support.google.com/googletv/answer/15766805?hl=en)

2. ### Open Simple TV Remote and pick your TV

3. ### Type the code shown on your TV

The TV shows a short code the first time you connect. After that, the app reconnects without a code.

    [Source](https://support.google.com/googletv/answer/11136134?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DiOS)

4. ### Let the TV turn on from standby

    For turn on from standby

Look for your TV maker's network standby setting (for example Sony "Remote start" or TCL "Screenless service"). Your TV's page lists the exact menu path.

### Can’t find your TV? Add it by IP address

If your TV doesn’t show up in the app, tap “Can’t find it?” and type the TV’s IP address. Here’s where the TV shows it.

1. ### Find the TV's IP address (older Android TV menus)

    Settings **›** Device **›** Network **›** WiFi **›** Your Wi-Fi network **›** Status Info

Google documents this menu for Android TV; newer Google TV menus may differ.

### How to read a Sharp model number

Hover over or tap each part of the code.

European and UK Sharp TVs, 2021 onward

55GP6265E

- `55`Screen size in inches
- `G`Model-year letter: E (2021), F (2022–2023), G (late 2023–2024), H (2025), J (late 2025–2026), going by EPREL registration dates
- `P`Product line. Read together with the year letter, it tells you the platform: for example FN is Android TV, GP is Google TV, HJ is Roku TV and HK is TiVo OS
- `6265`Series and variant digits (finish, stand or retailer variant)
- `E`Region: E is Europe, K is UK, I is Ireland

The sticker on the back and the datasheet show a longer reference that starts with 1T-C, 2T-C or 4T-C (HD, Full HD or 4K) and ends with extra letters, for example 4T-C55FN2KL2AB. Both forms identify the same TV.

## Troubleshooting

Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.

The TV does not turn on from your iPhone

1. Check Settings > Network & Internet and turn on Wow (Wi-Fi) or Wol (Ethernet).
2. Wake only works from standby. If the TV was switched off at the wall or unplugged, turn it on with its own remote or button.

The pairing code does not appear

1. Make sure the iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
2. Check for a system update under Settings > Device Preferences > About > System Update, then try again.

The TV doesn't appear in the app

1. Make sure your iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
2. Allow Local Network access for Simple TV Remote in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
3. Restart the TV: unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
4. Check that the TV is a Google TV or Android TV. TVs with only Chromecast built-in can't be controlled this way.

No pairing code shows on the TV

1. Turn the TV on and leave it on the home screen; the code only shows while the screen is on.
2. On the TV, update Android TV Remote Service: open Google Play on the TV, search for "Android TV Remote Service" and choose Update.
3. If it still fails, go to Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service and choose Force stop, then Clear storage. Then pair again.

The app asks to pair again every time

1. Clear the storage of Android TV Remote Service on the TV (Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service > Clear storage), restart the TV and pair once more.
2. Give the TV a fixed address in your router so it doesn't change after a power cut.

The TV won't turn on from the app

1. Wake works only from standby. A TV that was unplugged or switched off at the wall can't be woken over Wi-Fi.
2. Turn on your TV maker's network standby setting. See your TV's page for the exact menu path.
3. On Android TV 14 sets, a low-power energy mode may turn the network off in standby. Choose a mode that keeps the network on.
4. If the TV uses Ethernet, try Wi-Fi, or the other way round. Some TVs only wake on one of them.

Volume doesn't change on a Chromecast, Google TV Streamer or SHIELD

1. Turn on HDMI-CEC on your TV and on any soundbar or receiver in between.
2. On the streamer, set Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Set up remote buttons > Volume control to "Auto (CEC)".

## Questions

Is there a Sharp Android TV remote app for iPhone?

Yes. Simple TV Remote is a Sharp Android TV remote app for iPhone that works with Sharp Android TV sets running Android TV. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.

Can my iPhone turn on a Sharp Android TV TV?

Yes, from standby. Turn on Settings > Network & Internet > Wow (Wi-Fi) or Wol (Ethernet). The TV must be in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall. No app can turn on a TV that is unplugged.

Which Sharp TVs run Android TV?

UK and European Sharp TVs whose model name has EQ, FG, FH, FI, FL, FN or FP after the size, for example 55FN2KA or 65FP2EA.

Is Android TV the same as Google TV for this app?

For pairing and control, yes. Both use Google's remote service, so you pair with a code shown on the TV. The home screen looks different.

Will my Sharp Android TV get Google TV?

Sharp has not announced a Google TV update for these sets. They keep the Android TV home screen.

Where do I find the model number?

Go to Settings > Device Preferences > About > Model, or read the sticker on the back of the TV.

Which Sharp Android TV models work with Simple TV Remote?

Sharp Android TV TVs from 2021–2023 work, including the EQ, FG, FI, FN, FH, FL, FP series sold in United Kingdom and Europe. Search for your exact model code in the table on this page.

How do I connect my iPhone to a Sharp Android TV TV?

Put your iPhone and TV on the same Wi-Fi, open Simple TV Remote and pick your TV. Type the code the TV shows once, and the app remembers it.

Where is the model number on a Sharp TV?

Open Settings > System > About. It’s also on the label on the back of the TV.

Can I type on my Sharp Android TV TV from my iPhone?

Yes, in most search boxes. Some apps, like YouTube, use their own keyboard and ignore typed text.

Why can’t the app find my Sharp TV?

Make sure the TV is on and on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone, not a guest network, and turn off any VPN on your iPhone. If it still doesn’t show up, restart the TV and your router, then check Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network on your iPhone.

Do I need an IR blaster or extra hardware?

No. Simple TV Remote talks to your TV over your home Wi-Fi. iPhones have no infrared, so TVs without a network connection can’t be controlled.

## About these TVs

From late 2021 to 2023, most of Sharp's UK and European smart TVs ran Android TV. The 4K lines were EQ, FN, FL and FP. The HD and Full HD lines were FG, FH and FI.

Almost all of these sets run Android TV 11. The FI series runs Android TV 9.

Sharp replaced these lines with Google TV, Roku TV and TiVo OS models from 2023.
