Can't find the QLED remote, or the solar remote has stopped answering? Your iPhone can control a Samsung QLED over your home Wi-Fi: menus, volume, inputs, apps and power. The check on your own TV is free, then it's $5.99 once.

## What works

Samsung QLED TVs (2017 onward) run Tizen.

- Navigation and OK
- Volume and mute
- Turn off
- Turn on from standbyTurn on Power On with Mobile. 2017–2021: Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings > Power On with Mobile; 2022–2024: Settings > All Settings > Connection > Network > Expert Settings > Power On with Mobile; 2025 and later: Settings > All Settings > Connections > Network > Expert Settings > Power On with Mobile. Works from standby only, not after the TV has been unplugged.

## On your TV

| One UI Tizen upgrade | Tizen 8.0 | 2024 | Samsung began rolling out its One UI update, based on Tizen 8.0, to some 2023 TVs in late 2024 (reported by SamMobile). Samsung says TVs from 2023 onward can get up to seven years of One UI Tizen upgrades, depending on model and region. |

### How to read a Samsung model number

Hover over or tap each part of the code.

Year letter (all markets)

JKMNRTABCDFH

- `J`2015 (Tizen 2.3)
- `K`2016 (Tizen 2.4)
- `M`2017 (Tizen 3.0)
- `N`2018 (Tizen 4.0)
- `R`2019 (Tizen 5.0)
- `T`2020 (Tizen 5.5)
- `A`2021 (Tizen 6.0)
- `B`2022 (Tizen 6.5)
- `C`2023 (Tizen 7.0)
- `D`2024 (Tizen 8.0)
- `F`2025 (Tizen 9.0)
- `H`2026 (Tizen 10.0)

Samsung skips some letters. 2017 and 2018 QLED codes put the year in a different place (Q7F, Q9FN): there, F and FN are part of the series name, not 2025. Older 2012–2014 sets used E, F and H right after the screen size (UN46H6203); those run Samsung's Legacy Platform.

US QLED, Neo QLED, OLED and The Frame (2019 and later)

QN65QN90D

- `QN`US prefix for QLED, Neo QLED, OLED and The Frame
- `65`Screen size in inches
- `QN90`Series. QN is Neo QLED, Q is QLED (Q80), S is OLED (S90), LS03 is The Frame
- `D`Year letter: D is 2024

The full US code adds a factory suffix such as AFXZA (QN65QN90DAFXZA). The suffix can be ignored when checking compatibility. The Frame used the UN prefix in 2017 and 2018 (UN55LS003, UN55LS03N).

US Crystal UHD and UHD (2016–2024)

UN55CU8000

- `UN`US prefix for LED TVs (UHD and Crystal UHD)
- `55`Screen size in inches
- `C`Year letter: C is 2023 (K 2016, M 2017, N 2018, R 2019, T 2020, A 2021, B 2022, D 2024)
- `U`UHD (4K). 2016 premium sets use S (KS8000) for SUHD
- `8000`Series

From 2025, Samsung's series names put the year letter at the end, as on QLED codes (U8000F is the 2025 version of the 8000 series).

UK QLED, Neo QLED, OLED and The Frame

QE65Q80CATXXU

- `QE`European prefix for QLED, Neo QLED, OLED and The Frame
- `65`Screen size in inches
- `Q80C`Series and year letter (C is 2023)
- `AT`Variant letters. These change by series and year (for example QE55Q7FAMTXXU in 2017, QE55LS03TAUXXU for a 2020 Frame)
- `XXU`UK stock. Other European countries use different endings

Type the full code from the label when you check a UK TV. The part before the variant letters is usually the same as in the rest of Europe.

UK Crystal UHD and UHD

UE55CU8000KXXU

- `UE`European prefix for LED TVs (UHD and Crystal UHD)
- `55`Screen size in inches
- `C`Year letter: C is 2023
- `U8000`UHD series
- `K`Variant letter
- `XXU`UK stock

2016 UK codes follow the same idea with a different suffix, for example UE55KS7000UXXU.

## Troubleshooting

Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.

The TV never shows the Allow prompt

1. Check that your iPhone and the TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
2. Open Device Connect Manager and make sure Access Notification is not turned off. 2021: Settings > General > External Device Manager. 2022–2024: Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager. 2025 and later: Settings > All Settings > Connections.
3. If your iPhone is in the Device List as Denied, set it to Allow or delete it, then connect again.

The app can't turn the TV on

1. Turn on Power On with Mobile in the network Expert Settings (see the setup steps for your year).
2. Turn the TV off with the remote, not at the wall. A TV that was unplugged can't be woken over the network.
3. If it still doesn't wake, turn the TV on with the remote. The rest of the controls will still work once it's on.

The TV never shows the Allow prompt

1. Check that your iPhone and the TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
2. Open Device Connect Manager on the TV and check that Access Notification is not turned off. The path depends on the year: Settings > General > External Device Manager (2021), Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager (2022–2024), or Settings > All Settings > Connections (2025 and later).
3. Look in the Device List. If your iPhone is listed as Denied, change it to Allow or delete it, then connect again.

The app can't turn the TV on

1. Turn on Power On with Mobile in the network Expert Settings. 2017–2021: Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings. 2022 and later: Settings > All Settings > Connection (or Connections) > Network > Expert Settings.
2. Turn the TV off with the remote, not at the wall. A TV that has been unplugged or switched off at the wall can't be woken over the network.
3. Keep the TV on the same network as your iPhone. Some routers stop passing wake-up traffic to devices in standby after a while.

The TV turns itself on

1. Samsung's support pages say network devices can turn the TV on when Power On with Mobile is on. If you don't need to wake the TV from your phone, turn Power On with Mobile off.

## How to use your iPhone as a Samsung QLED remote

1. **Join the same Wi-Fi**Connect your iPhone and the TV to the same home Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often keep devices apart.
2. **Pick your TV in the app**Open Simple TV Remote and choose your TV from the list. The free check runs on your own TV before you pay anything.
3. **Choose Allow on the TV**The TV asks once whether to allow your iPhone. Choose Allow with your Samsung remote.
4. **Let your iPhone turn the TV on**Turn on Power On with Mobile in the network Expert Settings: Settings > General > Network on 2017–2021 models, Settings > All Settings > Connection > Network on 2022–2024 models, and Connections instead of Connection from 2025. This is optional and only works from standby.

## Questions

Is there a Samsung QLED TV remote app for iPhone?

Yes. Simple TV Remote is a Samsung QLED TV remote app for iPhone that works with Samsung QLED TV sets running Samsung Tizen. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.

How do I pair a Samsung QLED remote?

Stand within about 1 foot of the TV, point the remote at it, and hold Return and Play/Pause together for at least 5 seconds. Let go when the TV says the remote is connected. If it won't pair, unplug the TV for 30 seconds and try again.

How do I reset a Samsung QLED remote?

On a SolarCell remote (2021 and later TVs), hold Return and Enter, the center of the navigation pad, for 10 seconds. On a battery remote, take the batteries out and hold Power for 8 seconds. Then pair it again with Return and Play/Pause.

How do I charge a Samsung QLED SolarCell remote?

Plug a USB-C cable into the port on the bottom of the remote. The light on the front stays on while it charges and goes off when it's full. Between uses, leave the solar panel on the back facing the light. Samsung doesn't include the cable.

How do I turn on a Samsung QLED TV without the remote?

Press the Controller button on the TV. On many Samsung models it's under the bottom center or bottom right of the screen, but the spot and shape vary by model. Once the TV is on, press it once for a small menu with power, volume, channel and source.

Which Samsung QLED TVs work with Simple TV Remote?

QLED TVs from 2017 onward work, from the first Q7, Q8 and Q9 to today's Q60 to Q80 series, plus the 8K Q800 and Q900. On codes from 2019 on, the last letter is the year: R 2019, T 2020, A 2021, B 2022, C 2023, D 2024, F 2025. QN65Q80C is a 2023 TV.

How do I let my iPhone turn on my Samsung QLED?

Turn on Power On with Mobile in the network Expert Settings. On 2017–2021 models it's Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings. On 2022–2024 models it's Settings > All Settings > Connection > Network > Expert Settings. From 2025 it's Settings > All Settings > Connections > Network > Expert Settings. Then turn the TV off with the remote, not at the wall, so it waits in standby.

I pressed Deny on my QLED TV. How do I fix it?

Open Device Connect Manager and set your iPhone to Allow, or delete it so the TV asks again. On 2021 models it's in Settings > General > External Device Manager. On 2022–2024 models it's Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager. From 2025 it's Settings > All Settings > Connections > Device Connect Manager.

Is my 2017 Q7F a 2025 TV?

On 2017 and 2018 QLED codes the F is part of the series name (Q7F, Q7FN). 2025 QLED models use names such as Q7F and Q8F too, so check the year on the label or in Settings > Support if you're unsure.

How do I tell which year my QLED is?

From 2019, the last letter of the series is the year: R 2019, T 2020, A 2021, B 2022, C 2023, D 2024, F 2025. QN65Q80C is a 2023 Q80C.

Can my iPhone turn the TV on?

Only from standby and only with Power On with Mobile turned on. On 2017–2021 models it's under Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings.

Can I type into apps from my iPhone?

We don't know yet. Text input is marked unknown for Samsung TVs until we've tested it.

From 2021 Samsung's Mini LED models are sold as Neo QLED and have their own page. The QLED name continues on the Q60 to Q80 series.
