# What the free compatibility check tests

The free check pairs with your actual TV and sends real commands that you confirm on screen, so you know it works before you pay.

## The steps

1.  Find: your iPhone looks for TVs on your Wi-Fi and shows each one with its platform.
2.  Pair: you type the code shown on your TV or accept a prompt with your TV remote.
3.  Try: you move the selection and change the volume, then confirm what happened on the TV.
4.  Result: you see the status of each feature on your TV, including keyboard, inputs, apps, turning off and turning on from standby.

## Why we don’t trust discovery alone

A TV can show up on the network, offer AirPlay or Chromecast, or have an open port and still not accept remote commands. Only a real pairing plus a command you see on screen counts as working.

## If the check fails
